Yan is a practical problem-solving specialist with long experience in renewables in the marine environment. Prior to joining Mocean Energy, Yan was responsible for testing wave energy company Albatern’s first full-scale Squid 6 prototype across multiple deployment sites on the west coast of Scotland. Yan’s experience also includes working for Edinburgh Designs, overseeing the workflow on the installation of numerous of custom-built wave tanks around the world including FloWave in Edinburgh, the Nantes Wide Tank in France and the Marin Depressurised Wave Basin, Holland.
Head of Modelling and Testing
Gabriel has a PhD in Marine Engineering and a MEng in Mechanical Engineering with Renewable Energy, both from the University of Edinburgh. His expertise in fluid mechanics and numerical methods led to the development of specialist software for ocean engineering applications. During his PhD he built a numerical model to investigate the unsteady hydrodynamics of tidal turbine blades during waves and turbulence. These have been used to unravel for the first time the unsteady hydrodynamics along the span of a full-scale tidal turbine blade.
Head of Modelling and Testing
