Mocean Energy has joined this year’s TechX business accelerator programme – with its Seabase technology identified as a potential green ocean power source of tomorrow.

The ground-breaking initiative – supported by the UK’s Oil and Gas Technology Centre based in Aberdeen – has selected Mocean Energy to take part in its Pioneer course.

Mocean Energy managing director Cameron McNatt will join eleven other high-tech entrepreneurs on the 16-week programme, which provides £100,000 in funding with no equity or pay back.

The TechX scheme focuses on start-up firms who are delivering technologies that will position the oil and gas industry for a sustainable, low-carbon future and offers tailored support and expertise as both as a technology accelerator and incubator.

The Seabase wave energy converter will provide reliable, affordable renewable energy to power a range of subsea applications – from subsea control systems to ROVs and fully autonomous subsea vessels. This small-scale device is currently at the design stage and will provide continuous communications and green power generated by waves and stored in batteries.

Cameron McNatt said:

“It’s great that Seabase has been identified as a breakthrough technology for the oil and gas industry of tomorrow.

“We believe Seabase has tremendous potential to deliver affordable green power to offshore equipment and robotic machines, and participation in the programme will give us access to experienced business mentors and forward-thinking business partners and customers – ultimately helping us to commercialise our technology.”
