Mocean Energy is delighted to be an ONS Innovations Awards finalist for the SME category, with our technology focus being our Blue X wave energy converter.

In spring 2021, Mocean Energy’s Blue X was deployed at European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, the world’s leading open-sea test facility for ocean energy devices. Installed at Scapa Flow test site, Blue X was tested for an initial 5 months offshore trial, and then as part of the Renewables for Subsea Power (RSP) program, for a further 13 months, concluding successfully in April 2024. 

During this time, Blue X continuously provided low carbon power and communications to subsea equipment, thus offering a cost-effective future alternative to umbilical cables, which are carbon intensive with long lead times to procure and install. 

Blue X has demonstrated our commercial path to our first product, Blue Star, providing renewable power and communication for a range of subsea applications from control systems to fully autonomous underwater vehicles, proving commercial viability for the blue economy and a trusted partner to help achieve oil and gas decarbonisation and electrification goals. 

We are thrilled to be a finalist in the ONS Innovation Awards, and look forward to joining fellow finalists to present our technology at Technical Sessions on Monday 26th August from 3.30pm. The main award ceremony will take place at ONS Conference the following day (Tuesday), 10am-11.45am.
